Core Facility Gnotobiology
Gnotobiology enables the scientists to study the influence of the microbiome or individual bacteria on a germ-free animal model. In the process, issues relating to both health and disease can be investigated in different mouse models. The animals are kept in sterile conditions in a species-appropriate controlled system and can be associated with individual bacteria or more complex samples in the experiment setups. Detailed analysis of individual tissues and organs (histology, identification of inflammatory markers, metabolites, etc.) can provide insights into the causal influence of the microbiome or individual bacterial species on the animals’ health and metabolism.
